Reading Vlog | Winter Camping Trip

Winter Camping Reading Vlog 2020

I’m back with another reading vlog!

After everything that has been going on this year, I needed some time off work to relax and clear my head. We were lucky enough to take our camper to Huntington Beach State Park for an entire week. It had been years since I visited the park and forgot about the amazing views and trails.

We ended up vacationing at the perfect time. There was hardly anyone around and it truly felt like we had the beach and hiking trails to ourself. This trip was exactly what the family needed and it was great to disconnect.

Obviously while camping, I was able to get some reading done. This is the last month of 2020 and I’m trying to squeeze in as many books as I can. During the week I was able to read three books, which is a lot for me. Luckily, I enjoyed all three novels.

Check out the reading vlog below to see insight into our camping trip and find out about the books I read.

Hero Wanted book cover

Hero Wanted by Betina Krahn

From New York Times bestselling author Betina Krahn comes a sparkling new historical romance series that will ignite your spirit, and your heart…

When dashing, determined bachelor Rafe Townsend, and beautiful, impetuous Lauren Alcott are trapped into an engagement by their powerful business magnate fathers, their attraction suggests there may be pleasurable compensations to matrimony after all. Until an outing together puts a damper on their future…

Lauren is appalled when Rafe refuses to help two women whose boat has overturned on a river. Stripping her outer clothing, she dives in to rescue them herself—delighting a nearby reporter. Soon, newspapers and scandal sheets have labeled Rafe as “less than heroic,” for all of London to see, while Lauren is viewed by many as brazen. Besieged by scandalous rumors, and with both their reputations in the balance, what ensues is a prickly scheme that will either forge a partnership of deception—or blaze a path to true love…

I really enjoyed this historical romance. The main characters had a hate-to-love relationship that really blossomed as the story progressed. There is a good amount of action throughout to keep you turning pages.

Magic Lessons book cover

Magic Lessons by Alice Hoffman

In an unforgettable novel that traces a centuries-old curse to its source, beloved author Alice Hoffman unveils the story of Maria Owens, accused of witchcraft in Salem, and matriarch of a line of the amazing Owens women and men featured in Practical Magic and The Rules of Magic.

Where does the story of the Owens bloodline begin? With Maria Owens, in the 1600s, when she’s abandoned in a snowy field in rural England as a baby. Under the care of Hannah Owens, Maria learns about the “Unnamed Arts.” Hannah recognizes that Maria has a gift and she teaches the girl all she knows. It is here that she learns her first important lesson: Always love someone who will love you back.

When Maria is abandoned by the man who has declared his love for her, she follows him to Salem, Massachusetts. Here she invokes the curse that will haunt her family. And it’s here that she learns the rules of magic and the lesson that she will carry with her for the rest of her life. Love is the only thing that matters.

Magic Lessons is a celebration of life and love and a showcase of Alice Hoffman’s masterful storytelling.

Not a book I would typically read, but I’m so glad I did. This was an amazing story about women discovering who they are, as well as how they will use magic. I enjoyed the relaxed pacing and descriptive imagery. You don’t need to have read Practical Magic prior to this story.

The Jackal has been in the camp for so long he cannot recall anything of the freedom he once knew. Trapped by circumstances out of his control, he helps Nyx because he cannot help himself. After she discovers what happened to her sister, getting her back out becomes a deadly mission for them both.

Little Threats book cover

Little Threats by Emily Shultz

Both a taut whodunit and a haunting snapshot of the effects of a violent crime, Little Threats tells the story of a woman who served fifteen years in prison for murder…and now it’s time to find out if she’s guilty.

In the summer of 1993, twin sisters Kennedy and Carter Wynn are embracing the grunge era and testing every limit in their privileged Richmond suburb. But Kennedy’s teenage rebellion goes too far when, after a night of partying in the woods, her best friend, Haley, is murdered, and suspicion quickly falls upon Kennedy. She can’t remember anything about the night in question, and this, along with the damning testimony from a college boy who both Kennedy and Haley loved, is enough to force Kennedy to enter a guilty plea.

In 2008, Kennedy is released into a world that has moved on without her. Carter has grown distant as she questions Kennedy’s innocence, and begins a relationship with someone who could drive the sisters apart forever. The twins’ father, Gerry, is eager to protect the family’s secrets and fragile bonds. But Kennedy’s return brings the tragedy back to the surface, along with a whole new wave of media. When a crime show host comes to town asking questions, believing the murder wasn’t wasn’t as simple as it seemed, murky memories of Haley’s death come to light. As new suspects emerge and the suburban woods finally give up their secrets, two families may be destroyed again.
