I haven't read a lot of fantasy over the past year, but was drawn to the plot of Birth of the Fae: Locked Out of Heaven. I liked the concept of Angels turning into faeries and I'm usually drawn to origin stories. This novel offered an interesting story about new beginnings and hope with several fantastical elements.

When I picked up this book, I hadn't read the synopsis, and it turned out to be a lot different than I expected. Although romance, this novel has elements of folklore and a tiny bit of horror. Courtney, our main character, is at a crossroads in her life. She is pursuing her passions career-wise but struggles with trusting a new relationship after being jilted by her ex. I liked that you get to see Courtney process her past relationship, see the faults, and are willing to open up again.

Initially drawn to the cover of this book, and then the synopsis, I decided to give this book a read. I am so glad I did because I loved this novel.
Told from the perspectives of twin sisters, Valora and Grier, Sister of the Chosen One masterfully weaves an action story with personal struggles. As time passes, we see events unfold through the eyes of both sisters. Sometimes scenes slightly overlap, which was interesting, but I think it worked with the narrative.
